Frozen Hudson River, NYC old pier pilings and Jersey City

It was dusk on January 24th, 2014. A cold front had impacted New York area for a couple of days and Hudson River was almost completely frozen. Only a narrow passage was cleared for passenger boats, tugboats and water taxis so they could navigate freely.

When I took this photo, the sun had just set between the towers of downtown Jersey City, but the horizon was still twilit. The light tone of the sky reflected on Hudson River and enhanced the patterns of the ice formations that were floating on the dark, cold waters of the Hudson River, while contrasting the black old pier wood pilings that were sticking out of the Hudson and dotting its icy surface.

This photograph was taken from the New York side of the Hudson.
