Downtown Manhattan panoramic view - Black & White

Panoramic view of Downtown Manhattan skyline in Black & White

Downtown Manhattan panoramic view - Black & White

This photo was taken from an old pier and its wood pilings on the other side of New York harbour on a cold January day. The late afternoon sunlight was starting to dim behind the hazy clouds and the city lights came on, thus revealing the skyline.

Black & White emphasizes the strong and subtle differences in tones between the buildings, the Hudson River and the sky. The horizontal panoramic format gives a view of Manhattan that encompasses various New York City neighbourhoods including the Financial District, Battery Park City, Chelsea and Midtowns West. A good number of famous skyscrapers and high-rises are easily recognized (from left to right): 70 Pine Street, 40 Wall Street, 4 World Trade Center, 1 World Trade Center, some buildings from the World Financial Center, the Empire State Building, Bank of America, One Penn Plaza, the New York Times tower and finally the Worldwide Plaza buildings.

When printed in a large format, it is also possible to see a part of the Chrysler building and, of course, the Statue of Liberty, too.
