Male Western Lowland Gorilla Portrait in Black & White

Male Western Lowland Gorilla Portrait in Black & White

Whenever I go to the Bronx Zoo, the first thing that comes to mind is to visit the "Congo Gorilla Forest". I am always amazed at the behavior, demeanor and reactions of the gorillas.

For this photo, I tried to capture the expression of the dominant male of the band. What resulted was basically a portrait. I used Black & White to remove any color distractions and focus only of this silverback's powerful eyes and facial expression.

I hope to to travel one day to East Africa to observe gorillas in their natural habitat. As a supporter of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, I would also love to see the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda and to visit Mountain gorillas, another great ape that is in need all of our protection.
