Chapeau de Napoleon in the Southern Alps near Gap. Winter view in Black & White

Chapeau de Napoleon - France - Winter View

From the Napoleon Road north of Gap, in the Southern French Alps, here is a Black & White panoramic view of some peaks that mark the lower west side border of the Ecrins National Park.

In front of them all stands the mountain "Chapeau de Napoleon" named after its particular shape resembling Napoleon's hat. It is covered by a thick forest of fir trees and has an elevation of 4,629 feet.
Directly behind it, we can see L'Arche with its triangular shape (7,369 feet), followed behind and slightly to the left by L'Aiguille (7,733 feet). Then, to the right we can see La Petite Aiguille (7,575 feet) and a little further still the Piolit Peak culminating at 8,084 feet.

The photo was taken in the early winter morning after a fresh snowfall just before the last clouds vanished.
