Prints

I have always printed my photographs myself. Labs never gave me the flexibility I needed to obtain the best result possible (maybe I was too much of a "perfectionist" to be happy with the process...!). Printing has always been a difficult process due primarily to the quality of inks and paper available in the past. With the new line of printers by Epson (and other manufacturers, too) we now have at our fingertips a range of inks and papers that give us a very satisfying result. I have settled on Epson printers and UltraChrome K3 inks to print my photographs. This combination gives me a large gamut and print lightfastness (longevity). Most of my work is printed on Luster paper to provide the deepest blacks possible while maintaining smooth color gradations. Henry Wilhelm (www.wilhelm-research.com), a specialist in print permanence ratings, assigns 165 years before noticeable fading occurs for color prints on Epson Luster, under UV glass, and more than 200 years for Black and White prints. I usually leave a border of one inch or more around the print for mounting. The prints are sent in tubes, separated by an unbuffered interleaving tissue sheet. The actual print size may vary slightly from the one noted in the “info” section of each photograph due to different image ratio formats.
